To me this is the challenge of a Chief Executive as distinct from a manager.”

In 2004 Silcar sought the services of VogelPercy to help address issues such as the lack of alignment between key people and the organisation’s objectives. “Our group is now a lot more aware of itself and a lot more robust in handling misalignment from time to time. “There is a big difference between disagreement and lack of agreement. And lack of agreement was our problem. Now our key people can recognise what they’re missing, and they know what to do to fix it,” Bernie Cooper says.

“Our organisation has 2,500 people. We used to have leadership logjams that took a couple of months to sort out. Our people still Asked about one of the most important lessons he has learned in his role as a CEO, Bernie Cooper doesn’t hesitate to say: “People. Have good people. And if you haven’t got them, you have to get them. Then encourage them to grow and reach Personal Mastery. There’s so much to come from that.” And there’s so much to come from being true to your convictions and having the right people on your team to back you up. In the McCarthy era, Ed Murrow and Fred Friendly were two team players who did what they had to do to be true to themselves and their country.
